Odis and his mother-in-law Christine

Februry 17, 2002
I talked with Odis today.  He told me that he and Betty went to Franklin KY to get married because it was quick with no waiting.  He asked her to marry him on Friday April 06, 1945.  They drove to Franklin, Simpson County, KY.  The judge there would marry people around the clock night and day.  There was a gazebo on the lawn of the Court House.  The couples would stand under the gazebo while the judge married them.  While Odis and Betty were standing there being married by the judge, the court house clock stuck midnight.  For the longest time they were sure if they were married on April 06, or April 07.

They spent their wedding night at a motel right across from the court house.  They returned to Springfield on Saturday or Sunday.
