Descendants of Peter Schramn
Generation No. 1
1. Peter1 Schramn He married Apolonia Barth.
Notes for Peter Schramn: During the Thirty Years War [1618-1648], a BARTH family lived in the village of Altenkirchen [province of Kusel, Chur Pfalz region of Rheinland - Pfalz (later known as the Palatinate). In the later stages, the Thirty Years War degenerated into groups of ex-soldiers who roamed the countryside, pillaging and burning, and taking what they could.Children of Peter Schramn and Apolonia Barth are:
The Barth family, with their young daughter, Apolonia, fled from Altenkirchen. Where they went is not known, but when they returned, Apolonia brought Peter SCHRAMM with her. ( Family lore has it that their marriage had to wait a period of years until the clergy returned to the area. The children did not all wait!). From the 1640's until the present this Schramm family has always had someone in the little village of Altenkirchen.

THE SCHRAMM CASTLE
Burg Hohenschramberg was built in 1457 to 1459 by Hans von Rechberg the forefather of the Schramberg family. The castle was built on the remains of the ruins of an earlier castle. It was built to withstand the fireweapons that were used at that time. During the next two hundred years the castle walls were reinforced several times. Despite all this, Konrad Wiederhold, the famous trial lawyer of Hohentwiel was able to capture the castle during the 20 year war. In 1648, the last additions were built by Hans Fredrich von Bissingen. During the Louis XIV war against Germany, the castle was destroyed on January 10, 1689. The remains, even though heavily damaged is the Kaeferlesturn (Tower) in the northwest, the fort (Wehrburg) and the two half round towers and the outside walls of the palace. Take note of the Family crest with the inscription 1499 of the von Rechberg Aristocracy above the northerly entrance to the fort (Wehrberg). The walls around the fort are 6 meters thick in several places and it contains many openings that were used to shoot through during the wars. The inscription above the southerly entrance to the fort tells of a fire in 1498 and the rebuilding.
The ruins is taken care of by the city of Schramberg and the "Burgpioniere" an organization of citizens of Schramberg.

Generation No. 312. Johamn Jacob3 Shrum-Schram (Hanss Theobaldt2 Schramn, Peter1) was born 1686 in Dunzweiler. He married Anna Maria (Kreafer) Koener 1714 in Dunzweiler, Rheinland-Pfalz.
Notes for Johamn Jacob Shrum-Schram:
According to the local Reformed and Lutheran church birth records they had 11 children born in the towns of Dunzweiler, Waldmohr, Oberbexbach, and Kirrberg in the Pfalz and adjacent Saar basin area.
Johann Jacob Schramm and Anna Maria, and sons, landed in the fall of 1738, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This family settled on the frontier (then), at York, Pennsylvania, eighty miles west of Philadelphia.
The first Johann Jacob [son] died before his next older brother was born. The second Johann Jacob married, and remained behind when Jacob and Anna Maria and his siblings left for America.
Several sons of this immigrant group moved to new frontiers beyond York, before the War of Independence. Nicholas moved south to Lincoln County, North Carolina about 1765. Johannes moved westward, settling in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania about 1770. David (Theobald) settled in the Shenandoah Valley in northern Virginia after 1776. George, the oldest, remained at the homestead in York County.
Nicholas' descendants today in North Carolina are found with both Schrum and Shrum surnames, with the split about even.
Jacob & Anna Maria and 9 children [not verified] sailed for America on the Ship "Davy", leaving from the vicinity of Rotterdam, Holland, travelling via Cowes, England, arriving in the port of Philadelphia on 25 October 1738.
The next day the Gazette revealed the horrible story of this voyage: "The Captain, both mates, and 160 passengers died at sea. The ship's carpenter, William Patton, brought the ravaged vessel up the Delaware". Patton listed 74 men, 47 women as the remaining (surviving) passengers. No children were listed. Only 40 of the men were well enough to come to the courthouse to be signed in and to take oaths of allegiance. Jacob and his son Georg were 2 of the 40. [The carpenter, Patton, may have been too busy to notice that Jacob and Anna Maria's other children, at least the sons Nickel (Nicholas), and Theobaldt (David) had survived the voyage to America].
In Anna Maria's 1754 will she names her heirs as Georg, David, Nicholas, and the youngest Johannes who was born in America. None of the other children born in Europe are mentioned.
Jacob and Anna Maria settled near York, Pa. where Jacob died in 1748. Anna Maria died near there in 1754. They have markers at the Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, Pa. where it is believed that they have been buried.Pennsylvania Foreign Oaths of Allegiance

Notes for Nichaolas Jr. Shrum:List - Nicholas Shrum, buried on the Dry Fork of Goose Creek..
The first Member of the Shrum Family to appear in the Smith/Macon County, TN was Nicholas Shrum, son of Nicholas and Anna Kroener Shrum. It is believed that he left Lincoln County, NC after 1787. The first record for Nicholas in Tennessee occurred when he was appointed as a juror in 1803. He purchased 640 acres of land on Dixon Creek July 29, 1804 from John L. Martin. Then January 8, 1806, he sold 217 arcres on Dixon Creek to John Patterson and signed his name as Nicholas Srum.
Nicholas Shrum's name was included in an article published in the March 14, 1812 issure of the "Carthage Gazette" newspaper 1806-1819. A letter written by Tilmon Dixon to Brig. Gen. James Winchester and signed by Revolutionary War Veterans to be called the "Smith County Revolutionary Volunteers" for the purpose of declaring intentions to defend the home front while the younger men served during the War of 1812. Based on this information it is believed that Nicholas Shrum was a Revolutionary War Vetran and that he was buried on Dry Fork of Goose Creek.
Since Nicholas left no will and no census for Tennessee until 1820, deeds and court records were used to establish Nicholas Shrum and his family. Nicholas Shrum and Besty Hostetler's children were determined by taking Smith County deeds to identify Nicholas, John, Peter (b. 1787) and Henry ShrumSmith County Revolutionary War Soldiers

Notes for Willie Ann Holstein Shrum:
Hi Trish,
My name is Carolyn Collis. I'm also a cousin to Sherry Felcon, which I think you've talk to before. My grandmother, Mary Ada Shrum Mince was Solomon Shrum's daughter. Sherry's grandmother Willie Ann Shrum Templeton and Mary Ada were sister's. My half aunt, and Sol's daughter by his second marriage, Esther Shrum Stamps is 90 years old and still living, so is my mother who is 84.
I was searching the web and came across your Swallow's family story. I read what you said about Prudie Swallows, and that you were told that Prudie was the mother of Sol. That is not true.
John Allen Shrum did not have a daughter Prudie. She was Joe and Martha Shrum's daughter.
According to Aunt Esther, Sol's father was a Swallows but there not sure if it was Joe. They think that it may have been and he was going with Martha and messing with Willie Ann the year older sister, at the same time. Maybe she found out she was going to have a baby after he married Martha. It also could have been a brother to Joe we don't know for sure, but anyway we do think that Sol's mother was Willie Ann Shrum. She lefted home after Sol was born and the tell was that she went to keep house for these people in Kentucky. I thought that was strange since Martha and Joe was going to Kentucky.
Aother reason that we're sure that it was Willie Ann that had Sol is that Sol named his first daughter Mary after his wife, the second daughter after his mother, Willie Ann. Also, my Aunt Esther thinks her name was Willie Ann also.
My mother's sister was named Willie Elizabeth after her two grand mothers. Sol's first wife was Mary Elizabeth. Willie Elizabeth named her first daughter, Mary Elizabeth.
The names have been handed down. Back in Sol's day it was very common to name the first girl after the mother, the second girl after the husband's mother, and I think

Joe and Martha came by covered wagon from East Tennessee to Logan County KY. Martha died on the way and was buried along side the road. This would probably have been between 1884-1892. Joe was grinding sorghum at the mill with a mule when he was crushed in an acident. He lived 2 or 3 months before he died. He lived in Bunea Vista source James Swallows [Oct 2000]
Joe lived out away from Russelville Ky in the countryside. Joe was short of statue and had a large nose. He would walk in the town and carry his groceries home in a sack over his back. source Clayton Swallows as told to Odis Swallows [Oct 2000]Trousdale Co. 1880 Census
