born June 03, 1758 near Kingswood, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey. He died September 22, 1827 inPutnam Co. TN. William was a Captain in the Revolutionary War. Although the National Archives have no record of his service at this time. His only existing war record comes from his father's journal. This record has been established and approved by the DAR and his descendants my join the patrotic organ. from the following number 428534.West of the Wabash River at a place called Vincennes, George Rogers Clark held a fort against Indians and French traders. We do not know if our William Jared mingled in that company. There was a William Jared enrolled there. We do know our William could throw up a half-faced camp and survive zero weather. The tall timber that frightened many explorers was his friend. He survived the combination of woods and lurking Indians and dared to move a young family to middle Tennessee as early as 1796. He established a home when many not fitted for pioneering a new land got lost, or lost their reason. He had to be a hunter, warrior, horseman, farmer, carpenter, toolmaker, and blacksmith.
In 1792 William was again recorded among his family and friends in Bedford Co. VA. On Dec. 6, 1792 he married Elizabeth Raulston the 22 year old daughter of Matthew Raulston of Bedford Co. VA. Matthew Raulston wasthe father of Colonel James Raulsten of the Second Division of the Tennessee Militia, in the War of 1812. Col. Raulsten's picture hangs in the State Capitol Building in Nashville, TN. William was 34 years old when he married Elizabeth Raulston.

Joseph Jackson Jared 5th Great Grandfather of Web Creator
born January 12, 1760 in London Co., VA, lived in Lasie Town, Bedford Co., Va in October 23, 1780 where he married Martha Agnes Beard. Joseph died January 07, 1848 in Jackson Co., TN.Joseph was a Private in Feagin's Company, Russell's Virginia Regiment. He received a Tennessee Land Grant for his Revolutionary War Service. Joseph entered service as a volunteer October 12, 1779 in London Co., VA. He entered the service atLacy's Tavern, on Bulskin Creek, under Captain Daniel Feagans, Lieutenant John Russell, Ensign Samuel Oliphant, Col. Russell, Major Merriweather, and Major Dick?
Colonel Russell's regiment was immediately marched from Lacy's Tavern to Richmond, from which place it anticipated they would move on to Hillsborough, but upon their arrival at Richmond, they were ordered to move on to Portsmouth, which they did.
After being at Portsmouth for a few days, they were moved on to Cabbin Point, where they were stationed for a short time. At this place the regiment erected large tents of green pine trees with much regularity as to arrangement. The manner of arrangement was such as is commonly used in laying off a town, as the tents were built in rows with streets between them. The soldiers named this place Green Town, by which name it is still known.
From Green Town, they were marched to Petersburgh, VA., and remained there until the term for which they had volunteered had expired. At this place, the regiment was reviewed by General Stuben, after which the soldiers were discharged, but were told to be ready to report for service when called.
Joseph Jared enlisted again as a volunteer in 1781, at the same place as before under Captain Elgin. The regiment was marched to Richmond, thence to Glouster, near Little York, where it joined the main army under the command of General Washington, and there engaged in the Battle of Little York. Here the regiment remained until after the surrender of Cornwallis. At the close of the war, Joseph was discharged from the army. After he was discharged from his first service, and before he again enlisted, he married Martha Agnes Beard at Bedford County, VA. The date of this marriage being October 23, 1780

(father-in-law of the above Captain Thomas Isbell) Benjamin Howard (1742-1828) served as a private in Capt. Henry Gaither's company, 1st Maryland regiment, commanded by Col. John Stone. He was born in Maryland; died in Wilkes County, N. C.

SHRUM, NICHOLAS
1763-May 1851 in York Co., PA
Nicholas Shrum's name was included in an article published in the March 14, 1812 issure of the "Carthage Gazette" newspaper 1806-1819. A letter written by Tilmon Dixon to Brig. Gen. James Winchester and signed by Revolutionary War Veterans to be called the "Smith County Revolutionary Volunteers" for the purpose of declaring intentions to defend the home front while the younger men served during the War of 1812. Based on this information it is believed that Nicholas Shrum was a Revolutionary War Vetran. One source names a Nicholas Shrum as having fought in the Battle of King's Moutain. However I have no way at his time of proving whether it is the same Nicholas Shrum. Nicholas's father left Pennsylvania via the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia about 1763 and settled in Lincoln County, North Carolina about 1765 where he died in 1793. It is believed that he left Lincoln County, NC after 1787 for middle Tennessee.STORY, WILLIAM

William Story, John Story and Mark Rickman had served with the North Carolina militia (1st NorthCarolina regiment) in the Revolutionary War. For his service William was given land in Davidson County, NC (most of Tennessee was Davidson County at that time). The deed to William's land was recorded in North Carolina deed book number 3. James Foy fought in the American Revolutionary War and was in the battles of Cowpens, King's Mountain, Guilford Court House and
Moore's Creek Bridge, at which place he was wounded in the wrist. He died at the age of 85 years. According to other records he was ninety years at his death. Continued: "...James Foy served in the Revolution and was in the Battle at Moore's Creek.
