Throughout the county, friends and acquaintances mourn the death of the Rev. S. M. Ensor, beloved retired Methodist minister.
The Rev. Ensor, 77, died Friday morning at Jesse Holman ,Jones
hospital as the result of a stroke suffered two weeks ago.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 17, at 2:30 p.m. at First
Methodist church, where he held membership since his retirement 12 years
ago. The Rev. B. H. Parker of Old Hickory, the Rev. H. T. Tipps of
Clarksville, and Dr. John I. Dickson officiated. Burial was in Elmwood
cemetery with Masonic rites.
The Rev. Ensor was widely known in Robertson county and Tennessee, having held pastorates in the Cumberland, Gallatin, Clarksville and Cookeville districts of the Tennessee conference. He received his education in Putnam county and at the Vanderbilt School of Religion. Since his retirement he has been active in supply work.
He was a member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge, No. 9 and was the first president of the Robertson County Bee association.
In June 1900, he married the former Miss Dora Isbell who survives.
He was a native of Putnam county, son of the late Jonathan and Sara
Evans Ensor.
Besides his widow, he is survived by five sons, Clyde Ensor, Louisville,
Ky.; Edward Ensor, Miami, Fla.; Paul Ensor, Lawrenceville, Ga.; James Ensor,
Gallatin, and Billy Ensor, Madison; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Oakley,
Livingston, Tenn.; Mrs. Christine O'Neal, Gallatin; and Mrs. Sara Brunson,
Greensboro, N. C.; one brother, John Ensor, Sikeston, Mo.; one. sister,
Mrs. Ida Smellage, Baxter; three half brothers, Robert and Charlie Ensor,
Baxter, and Jim Ensor, Oak Ridge 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Springfield, Tenn. - Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Isbell Ensor, 84, were to be held today at the First Methodist Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Robertson Co., Springfield, Tennessee..
She died Fridaym in St. Thomas Hospital at Nashville following a brief illness.
Mrs. Ensor was a native of Putman County and a member of the Methodist Church.
She was a daughter, of the late William and Amanda Starnes Isbell.
Survivors include four sons, Edward Ensor, Miami, Fla., Paul Ensor, Lawrenceville. Ga., James Ensor, Gallatin, and William Ensor, Conyers, Ga., three daughters, Mrs. Roy Oakley, Livingston, Tn., Mrs. Christine O'Neal, Gallatin, and Mrs. A. Brunson, Garland, Tx., two sisters, Mrs. John H. Whitson, Cookeville, and Mrs. Jewell Lee, Nashville, 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren.
