June 1st 1881 In the name of God Amen I William R. Walker being of
sound mind and memory do make constitute and ordain this my last will and
testament in manner and form as follows
1st I will my soul to God who gave it.
2nd I consign my body to the dust from whence it came.
3rd It is my will for all of my burial expenses and funeral charges
to be paid.
4th It is my will for all of my just debts to be paid.
5th I give and bequeath unto my son Levi S. Walker one third
of my real estate to include where he has settled.
6th I give and bequeath to my son William R. Walker Jr. one third
of my real estate to include where he has settled.
7th I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally
W. Carden one third of my real estate to include the settlement
where I now live. 8th It is also my will and bequest for my three
children Levi S. Walker, William R. Walker and Sally W.
Carden to divide my timberland equal among themselves.
9th In addition to the above I bequeath my interest in the mill
site on little river to my three children above named equal.
10th It is also my will and desire for forty feet square of land
to be reserved for a cemetery to include where my wife is buried for the
use of my family relatives or any other persons that may choose to and
? bequest I strictly desire to be adhered to by my three children in the
division of my real estate any fruit that may be or fruit trees that may
be included in foregoing said forty feet square of land reserved is to
be for the use of my daughter Sally W. Carden
or her heirs or assigns.
11th It is my desire that neither one of my children shall account
to each other for any property that has been advanced to them by me.
12th It is my desire that my daughter Sally
W. Carden shall have the bed bedstead & furniture that she
claims as hers in lieu of advancement made to my two sons that they are
not to account for.
13th It is also my will and desire for the residue of my household
kitchen furniture crop stock and provisions that may be on hand at my death
shall be divided equal among my three children.
14th It is also my desire in conclusion to the foregoing that
Wilie P. Gates have fifteen dollars to be paid by my executors for his
benefit along to send him to school buying books etc to said amount of
fifteen dollars
15th I hereby appoint constitute and empower my two sons Levi
S. Walker & William R. Walker my executors and my daughter
Sally W. Carden my executrix to pay all my just debts and settle
my estate according to the foregoing intent and bequests, signed sealed
and executed in the presence of

In the name of God amen. I do hereby constitute this my last will and testament in the following words and figures towit: I desire my debts to be paid out of the Sale of such property as my executor thinks can be best Spared. It is my desire that by wife Lucy Whitaker remain in possession of the plantation on which we now live her life time free of any encumbrance. I give to each of my daughters Polly Cardin, Nancy, & Ann Whitaker 1 Cow and Calf, 1 Bedstead Bed & furniture when Called for. I give to my two sons Burton & John each 1 Horse Saddle & Bridle the value of which Shall be fifty or sixty dollars. I have already given to Thomas, Isaac, William & David Whitaker 1 Horse Saddle & Bridle which I now mention to prevent any charge being made against Them. It is my desire that my son John shall receive one years schooling. It is my desire that my wife Lucy Whitaker have all my stock, grain farming utensals, House hold and Kitchen furniture her life time and at her death the Plantation together with farming utensals, Stock, Grain, House hold & Kitchen furniture shall be sold and the money ensuing therefrom divided equally between my sons Thomas, Isaac, William, David, Burton & John Whitaker. I appoint my son William Whitaker my executor to this my last will. Will of ROGER HANCOCK
In the name of God amen. I, Roger Hancock, being in a low
state of health of body but in perfect mind and memory, do make this my
last will and testament as followeth:
First. I give my soul and spirit into the hand of the Lord
God who gave it me.
Secondly, I give my body to the earth from whince it came to
be buried at the discretion of my executrix.
I give to my beloved wife, Nancy Hancock, my Plantation with
all workings. Tools of every kind together with the house and furniture
of every kind, also the creaturers of every kind. Such as horses,
cattle, sheep, and hogs, during her widowhood of live at the end of either
to be divided as followeth:
I give unto my loving daughter Susanna Hancock, one bed and furniture,
one pine chest and her Equil part of such property as is then to divide.
I give to my loving daughter, Polly W. Hancock, one bed and furniture
or twenty-five dollars to be raised out of the other property if she be
then living, also one small trunk and her part of the other property.
I give to my loving daughter, Betsy Hancock, one bed and furniture
and one large Trunk, and her part of the other property.
I give to my loving daughter, Betsy Hancock, one bed and furniture
and one large trunk and her part of the other property. I give to
my loving son, Wesley Hancock, one bed and furniture also in my Big Bible
and his part of the other property. I give to my loving son,
Fletcher Hancock, one bed and furniture also my small Bible with the four
vollums of Fletcher's works, and his part of the other property.
My will and desire is that at the death of my beloved wife the plantation
with all other property that then remains except such as is aboved named,
be sold and equally divided between my five children or as many of them
as be then living.
I make and ordain my belover wife, Nancy Hancock, my only executrix
of this my last will and testament in witness thereof. I have unto
set my hand and so this 10day of February 1817 in the presents of text.

ENGELHARD - Hazel Tolan JARVIS, 81, (born 1912?) long time resident
of Engelhard, died February 27 at her home. She was born in Lowland community,
the daughter of the late Homer Stion and Pearl Matilda Ross Tolan. She
was the widow of Harry Jackson Jarvis. She was a member of the First Free
Will Baptist Church in Belhaven. Surviving are three sons: Harry Glyn Jarvis
of Swan Quarter, Wayne Laurin Jarvis of Engelhard and Ralph Eugene Jarvis
of Swan Quarter; a daughter, Esther Pearl J. Carden
of College Park, Ga.; three brothers: Homer S. Tolan, Jr. of Bloomfield
Hills, Michigan, Delma R. Tolan
and William Frost Tolan, both of Belhaven; three sisters: Evelyn Tolan
and Elaine T. Wade, both of Thomasville and Marjorie T. Ratcliffe of Pantego;
14 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 7 great- grandchildren; and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
A brother, Hal Elmo Tolan, preceded her in death in 1989. Funeral services
were held Monday at the family plot in North
Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 99, with the Rev.
W.L. Brickhouse and Steve Bryan officiating. Arrangements are by Bryan
Funeral Service, Swan Quarter. (The Coastland Times - Tuesday, March 2,
