In 1691 Christien Le Clercq (b. 1641 - d. 1695) published Premier Establissement de la Foy dans la N'lle France. Which means "First Establissement of Foy in the N'lle France." Does anyone know what "Establissement" or "N'lle" mean? Does any one have any idea what this publication is about? Is it talking about the surname Foy or it's meaning. (i.e. "faith")
Colm Foy was kind enough to provide us with the following translation
of Premier Establissement de la Foy dans la N'lle France: "When the faith
first came to New France." He also points out that "New France" in this
case was Canada. In some cases "New France" was used to refer to the area
we now know as Louisiana in America.
