Notes for WILLIAM DAVID WRIGHT:
William David and his father, Basley Grave Wright, both were millers by trade and they got a petition to keep one out of war but it didn't work and they both went.  William David was shot in the spine during the war but was not crippled.  He and Mary Elizabeth married soon after the war. William David Got sick so they moved a cottage on County Home ( the home for the poor)  grounds and she (Mary Elizabeth?) cleaned at Home.

According to Anna Lee Wright, William David's Grandaughter, the truth of the exemption from the war was that Basley told William David that he would take care of getting William David's Exemption for him, but when it came Basley decided to keep the exemption for himself and send William David on to the war!

Newspaper Article (Date unknown)

"STATIC JUICE CAUSES EXPLOSION

Man Burned Taking Silk Dress Out of Gasoline-Static Electricity Explodes Gas

An explosion, beleived to have been caused by static electritcy, burned R. L. Westbrook, in charge of the dry cleaning department of the Columbia Laundry, painfully about the hands and arms yesterday morning.
Mr Westbrook, it is stated, was taking some silk dresses out of a gasoline washing machine.  He had taken out one dress, and in removing the second, friction, in some manner, was developed, and the static electricity in the sink coused the gasoline to explode.
While Mr. Westbrook's burns are very painful, it is not beleived that they aarea serious, and he is up and about today, although his arms are bandaged."

Notes for LORENA MOZELLE WHITESELL:
Linda Karen Lewallen Watts says of her Grandmother, Lorena Mozelle Whitsell Westbrook;

"My fondest remembrance of Grandmother is when she helped me cook my first meal.  Mom was in the hospital and Grandmother was staying with us.  She spent alot of time teaching me to be a homemaker.  I had a "Betty Crocker Boys and Girls Cookbook".  She taught me how to read a recipe and make a grocery list.  My first meal was : Ovenfried Drumsticks
                                                     Macaroni and Cheese
                                                     Green Peas
                                                     Cornbread
                                                     Applesauce
Grandmother once told me what she loved most about her Mother was she taught her to cook and sew.  Her cooking and sewing skills were a inspiration to me.  I could always look ford to Christmas morning.  She always made me a warm flannel gown.
My favorite foods were always make on my birthday - pound cake and chocolare bread pudding.  When Dale and I were married she would have us over for lunch.  She always had: breaded baked chicken breast, broccoli casserole and of course, pound cake"

Alvis Thad Lewallen III says of his grandmother, Mozelle;

"My fondest memory of Grandmother was being at her apartment, of many years, on a Saturday morning and cooking with her and just sitting around talking.  I was her first born grandchild and all through the years it was quite obvious that I was her favorite.  By no doing of my own, she would always do special things for me but the time spent around the kitchen in her apartment talking is the best memory of all.

Our family always congregated around food and Grandmother was an excellent cook.  She never used recipes and because of that many of her recipes have tried to be duplicated but never quite as good as I remember them tasting.  My three favorite foods she made were her pound cake, her rice pudding and her dressing around holidays."

Robin Ann Wesstbrooks says of her Grandmother, Mozelle;

"My favorite memories of my Grandmother were staying with her and talking with her.  She would go for walks, visit neighbors.  My Grandmother loved me and I really loved her.

My favorite foods are Grandmother's turkey dressing and coconut cake."

Carolyn Kinley Westbrook says of her mother-in-law;

"My memories of my Mother-in-law, Mozelle W. Westbrook whom I called Grandmother in her later years, are many.  From the first time we met she was always kind and good to me.  Grandmother loved to cook and have good meals and have her family eat with her.  Christmas was the high time of the year for her.  She usually made by hand something for each person.  When the grandchildren came along she would make beautiful clothing for them.

My life was much enriched by this wonderful person.  She always had time for me.

Grandmother was the example of person living the way the Lord Jesus would have us all to live.

Grandmother was the best cook, she could boil water and make it taste better.  She had a special talent for cooking and my favorite foods were many but the one I loved best was her turkey dressing."

Roy L. Westbrook, Jr. says of his mother, Mozelle:

"My favorite memory of my mother was coming home at midnight from service.  Mom came to the door and turned on the light on the porch and called back to Dad that there was a black sailor on the front porch.  The reason I was so black was I had been in the South Pacific for two years and the sun had bleached my hair to blonde.

My favorite food was turkey dressing."

Hi,I was reading your page and can not find any mention of the Foy that I am related but I am sure that since there was not many Foy's in Mississippi that we are all related, one way or another.My ggrandmother was Eliza Foy Wactor. They referred to her as Lizer. I have not been able to locate anything about her family except that in the 1870 census for Franklin County Mississippi she was with an A. Foy. I have not been able to locate anything other than that information. I would appreciate any information that you may have. I do have a picture of her and my ggrandfather. My grandfather had it hanging over his bed before he passed away. He told me that it was the only one that he knew that existed. My aunt took it after he died and put it behind a TV so it has a little discolor to it, but you can still make it out. It is in the original frame that he had it in at the time.I would appreciate any information that you could share with me.

I've been surfing your Foy genealogy site.  My ggg grandmother was Frances "Ophelia" O'Hara, daughter of James "William" O'Hara and Rebecca Louisa Foy.  Ophelia was born July 14, 1806 and died June 28, 1847.  She is buried in outside of Imac in Meriwether County, Georgia.  Ophelia married Arthur H. Watson (1807 - 1880).  Arthur is buried at the Concord Methodist Church Cemetery outside of Woodbury, Meriwether County, Georgia.  I'm a descendant of their child, Allen Hezekiah Watson (1835 - 1882), who married Martha Anna "Mat" Anderson (1840 - 1910).

 I just found your website from posting on GenForum.

 I noticed you have a Hester Fontaine married to Pleasant Webster. Do you know if this is documented. This is my direct line and have been going crazy with it. We show that Pleasant was married to a Hester Foy, but the name of Fontaine or Fountaine, appears in their descendants often. I have pictures of graves with this name. It has been in my thoughts that she could be a
 Fontaine and not a Foy or that one name or the other might be a married name and then she married Pleasant Webster.

 Would appreciate any help you can give me. I have more on this line if you would like the information. It feels in some of the blanks on Pleasant's  line.

Subject: James Henry Webster

James Henry Webster, the son of Pleasant Webster and Hester Foy/Fountain?, was my g-g-grandfather.  If you would like information on this branch of the family please contact me and let me know what and in what format.  I can give dates and burial information on several Webster's if you are interested.  I do not believe Hester's last name was Fountain.  I think it was Foy.  That is according to information printed in the "Henry Co., Missouri History" which most likely would have been provided by her son since he was still living at that time.  I know the name Fountain appears as a middle name, and I wonder if it wasn't a surname of another ancestor.  I'm thinking Hester was most likely a sister or cousin of John Foy who married Pleasant's sister, Rebecca. Do you have any proof that her name was Fountain that would disprove the information above?

I look forward to hearing from you.

(I believe William to be the son of Augustin and Fanny Willard)

They had the following children:

Family of William WILLARD (1) & Matilda
2. Allen J. WILLARD. Born in 1821 in North Carolina. Allen J. died aft 1912, he was 91.
abt 1848 when Allen J. was 27, he married Mary, daughter of Catherine (1810-), in Surry County, North Carolina. Born in 1830 in North Carolina.
They had the following children:
i. John Calvin (1849-1940)
ii. Henry S. (1853-)
iii. Martha (Jane) (1854-)
iv. Charles F. (1857-)
v. William (1863-)
vi. Allen Crockett (1865-)

3. Miles Foy WILLARD. Born in 1840 in Surry County, North Carolina. (Known as Foy Willard)
On 6 Oct 1865 when Miles Foy was 25, he married Tabitha, in Yadkin County, North Carolina. Born in 1840 in North Carolina.

They had the following children:
i. Lury E. (1867-)
ii. Cary J. (1869-)

Please keep me in mind if you find any Foy/Willard Connections.

 Nancy,

I have been trying for some time to research the Foy side of my family. My great grandfather was Pleasant Nicholas Foy of Franklin Cty MS.  He and his brother Lewis Stevenson Foy were both married to my great grandmother Pemmie Emfinger. I have been unable to find out who there father and mother were. I believe they may have came from NC also I heard they had a sister named Catherine. Please let me know if you have any information that might help me. I have found in the Census where
there was also an A. Foy in 1870 in Franklin Cty., MS I believe I have also seen this in the 1850 census also. In the 1850 census it listed a PN of 7/12 I assume this to mean Pleasant was approximately 7 month old. I have that Lewis Stevenson was born in 1853 and think Pleasant was born in 1849/50. I saw where there as a Pleasant Nicholas Foy in NC but he was older and married to two other women and doesn't list any children by these names. From what I have seen of the descendents of Lewis and Pleas they named their children in some cases after an uncle rather than name it Junior.

Possibly Pleasant Nicholas in NC had a brother named A? Please see if you can help me. I live in
 Louisiana right across the bridge from Natchez MS. You can reach me at JCARROLL55@HOTMAIL.COM. This is so interesting to me. In some ways I would  have loved to live in the olden days. My husband laughs and says I wouldn't have lasted very long there. I'm sorta lazy.

Thanks again,
 Judy Carroll

Subject: Another Foy found

Dear Nancy,
In the process of researching my family history, I came across your page on Joseph H. Foy and I may have some additional information for your Foy Pages. I have a photocopy of the family record of Joseph H. Foy (married to Kate Battle) that lists three children and one grandchild. I know of one other grandchild (maybe?). The grandchild I am sure about, Gilbert Eustace Foy, was my grandfather. I also have some historical data regarding J. H. Foy. If you are interested or have any other information, I would love to hear from you.
